Saké Brewing is Rice Making
The Beautiful Taste of Saké
Is the Gift of Rice

The brewery is located almost right in the middle of the Osaki Plain. You’ll see it standing quietly, facing the endless countryside landscape which stretches as far as the eye can see. If the word “Miyakanbai” wasn’t written on the wall, you could mistake this brewery for a typical farmer's house. This is the only “Cultivation and Brewing Brewery" in Miyagi that handles everything from the processing of saké rice to saké brewing.

“Miyama Nishiki,” “Hiyori” and the fantastic rice "Aikoku" are grown on the company-operated fields that spread out in front of the brewery, keeping with the simple idea of "Saké brewing starts with making rice."

"The first generation of Miyama Nishiki started with one box of seedlings, and Aikoku started when I looked for seed rice. With just 132 grains of rice, after 3 years I was able to increase the amount to produce one tank of saké. However, now it is quite a bit easier to get your hands on some saké rice varieties," remarks President Iwasaki as he reflects on the past.

"Saké that Rejuvenates the Spirit."
Striving to Create “A Saké Which is Satisfying with Just One Drink”

It was 11 years ago when the heavy, thick taste of “Miyakanbai” made a major change. Kenya Iwasaki, the President, and Mana Iwasaki, the daughter of the chairman, along with her husband, joined the company. The chairman and the young couple repeatedly discussed "What kind of saké is Miyakanbai-like saké?"
The final answer was “A Saké Which is Satisfying with Just One Drink.”
The fruity fragrance and the history of saké rice cultivation, which has been handed down for generations, unlock and emphasize the umami of rice. This description set the direction of the brewery and helps to clarify the unique taste of Miyakanbai.

"We want to perform a type of saké brewing where the producer’s personality and creativity can be seen since we are the ones who have been involved since rice cultivation."
The philosophy of Miyakanbai is "Delicious local saké depends on delicious rice."
As soon as you take a drink, your spirit is rejuvenated. The brewery wishes to continue brewing this flavor of saké to make their customers happy.

In 1918, landowner Shinjiro Iwasaki brewed saké from locally grown rice and started selling it under the brand name of “Homare no Takagawa.” After a temporary suspension due to the war, brewing was resumed under the brand name "Miyakanbai" in 1956. Although the brewery was completely destroyed by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, the brewery was rebuilt in December of the same year.
